Etta James, R.I.P 1938-2012

One of the greatest singers of all times has sadly passed away last week. Etta James sang the blues, she rocked and rolled, and of course also sang soul, gospel and jazz. Here’s an amazing performance from 1962. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in ’93, the Blues Hall of Fame in ’01, and the Grammy Hall of Fame twice (!) – in  ’99 and ’08.

Her amazing talent and unbelievable voice will be missed forever. We’d rather be blind than see her walking away from us.

He ain’t Heavy, he’s our brother

We were sad to learn that rapper and entertainer Heavy D passed away last week, at the young (way too young!) age of 44.

Heavy D, born  as Dwight Arrington Myers in 1967, had a short run of successful hits at the beginning of the 90’s, but his work is still remembered and cherished today.

Rest in peace, D.

No, No, No!

It’s been a couple of days since the announcement, and as much as this came as no surprise, we are still utterly shocked and saddened over the death of one of the brightest talents of our time.

Amy Winehouse was an unbelievable singer, and the fact that she only managed to record two albums is such a waste of her incredible voice. Rehab is probably her iconic moment, and here it is, performed live on the BBC.

Amy, we miss you.

Gil Scott Heron, R.I.P

One of America’s most influential musicians, has passed away tonight, leaving us shocked and sad. Gil Scott Heron died at the age of 62 years old. His music combined spoken word with jazz, funk, soul and folk. his words were always honest and sharp. He was a key influence on the young rap scene, and the Jazz-Funk scene of the 70’s.

Just recently, Scott Heron has released album of new material, I’m New Here, which at least left his many fans feeling that he managed to produce one more masterpiece before he was taken away from us.

Gil Scott Heron, you will be missed. RIP.

Nate Dogg RIP

West coast and G-Funk don, Nate Dogg, has sadly passed away this week. The voice behind countless Hip Hop and RnB hits will be missed. He collaborated with Snoop, 2 Pac, Dr Dre, 50 cent, The Game, Ludacris, and many others. However, Regulate, with Warren G is probably his best known track.
