After over 30 years, one of the most important bands of our generation have called it a day.  They started as a post punk band in Athens, Georgia, at the early 80’s of the last century, and slowly but surely became nothing less than an institution.  Their most successful albums were released at the beginning of the 90’s, but this track from 1987- The One I Love- is their first major breakthrough hit, and  beautiful song that still sounds mesmerising today.

Check out their entire back catalog on iMesh, or simply focus on the R.E.M Best Of playlist we made for you.

Oscar? Nailed!

Congratulations to Trent Reznor for winning the Oscar on his (and Atticus Ross) soundtrack for the movie The Social Network. Trent was on the forefront of music making for over 20 years now, and is mostly famous for his Nine Inch Nails project, so to celebrate his justified Oscar, here’s a beautiful gem from his first NIN album, Pretty Hate Machine. This one is called Something I Can Never Have. Well, obviously he’s not referring to a certain golden statute.

New track By R.E.M

Alternative rock veterans are back with a new track, released at the very end of 2010. The song is a vintage R.E.M track, with those thick, shimmering guitars and Michael Stipe’s elusive voice. The track also features Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam!) and Joel Gibb on vocals.
