Believe it or not Mariah Carey turns 44 today.

Mariah Carey is known for being a diva. While some call her a diva because of her outlandish requests, others think is is because she always has to look perfect with her shimmering tan. The real reason Mariah is a diva is because she has proven she is with her voice, song after song.

Mariah Carey has been releasing hit after hit since her debut self-titled album in 1990.

Her first single was “Vision of Love” the song hit #1 and the world was introduced to the vocal range of Mariah.

In 1992 Mariah released a live album MTV Unplugged on it she performed “I’ll Be There”.

Dog with headphones

Today is National Puppy Day, a day to celebrate the irresistible adorableness of puppies.

There are many singers and songwriters that love dogs. Some famous musicians are known for being seen with their pooches. Some artists love dogs so much that they have even written songs about them.

Any fan of the band Sublime will know about Lou Dog. Lou Dog or Louie was the dalmatian of lead singer Bradley Nowell. The dog was constantly being referenced in songs and was featured in the band’s photos. He was even onstage at shows.

Nowell wasn’t the only songwriter with a special place in his heart for dogs. Here are some popular songs written about dogs.

What’s My Name? Artists That Have Changed Their Names

Posted by Nadine Segal • March 12, 2014 at 09:10 AM
Kesha

This week, Kesha went from spelling her name Ke$ha to spelling it Kesha. Whether this will reflect further changes in the singer’s life and career or if she just got sick of adding the dollar sign to her name, is yet to be seen. Considering the change comes just after a two month rehab stay for an eating disorder, it is a pretty fair guess that Kesha has done some soul searching recently.

Many artists choose to perform under another name and some like Kesha change that name, some even more than once. Here are some artists that can’t stick to one name.

Take Prince for example. In 1993 he changed his name to a symbol due to a disagreement with his then record company. The symbol, which is a combination for the symbol for male and the symbol for female, had no name. It became known as “the love symbol”, while prince became known as “The Artist Formerly Known as  Prince”. In 2000 after his contract was over, he went back to being known as Prince.

Not all name changes are so drastic, rapper Jay Z decided to remove the hyphen in his name which he previously wrote as Jay-Z. The change was so subtle that many have argued when the change actually took place.

Sean Combs is a successful rapper and a force in the music industry. Everyone is sure to recognize him, but will they know his name? He started his rap career as Puff Daddy, then changed his name to P. Diddy, then to just Diddy. If that wasn’t confusing enough, he is also part of a group called Diddy – Dirty Money.

Diddy’s former girlfriend Jennifer Lopez also started going by a nickname J.Lo when she released her second album.

Then there is Snoop Dogg, or Snoop Doggy Dogg, or Snoop Lion or maybe Snoopzilla, maybe we can just call him Snoop.

Do you think artists rename themselves to reflect a greater change or are they just looking for attention?

Whatever name your favorite artist goes by, you are sure to find their music on iMesh.

Today is “Get Out Your Guitar” Day, a day for guitarists of all levels to pick up their guitar and strum away.

To celebrate we thought we would look at the guitar legends that have taught us what the instrument is capable of, when in the right hands (or left).

Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix is one of the most celebrated guitarists of all time. While his career was cut short by his tragic death at the age of 27, he had a tremendous influence on music, most notably on the electric guitar. He released only four albums while alive, but left a large amount of unreleased material behind which was later used to release 10 studio albums and even more live albums and compilation albums.

Music Facts That Will Make You Feel Old

Madonna

Music is such a big part of our lives, that certain music can often trigger memories of specific moments or stages in our lives.

For instance when I hear Green Day‘s album Dookie was released twenty years ago, I think about listening to that album on repeat and hearing songs like “Basket Case” and “When I come Around” everywhere I went.

These fun facts about music are perfect for making us realize just how old we are. Take a second to remember what you were up to when each of these events took place. Think of it as a little trip down memory lane.

Can you believe that ten years have passed since Janet Jackson exposed herself during the Super Bowl halftime show?

November of this year will mark thirty years since Madonna gave her unforgettable performance of “Like A Virgin” at the MTV Video Music Awards.

One of the most infamous moments in rock history is when Ozzy Osbourne bit the head off of a bat on stage. That took place thirty-two years ago, in January of 1982.

It has been fifteen years since Britney Spears released  Baby One More Time. It was Britney’s very first album, what a wild ride it has been since.

April will be the 20th anniversary of the death of Nirvana front-man, Kurt Cobain.

The Spice Girls were formed twenty years ago in 1994, they then hit it big with their single “Wannabe”  two years later.

The show started out with a performance from Beyonce along with her husband, Jay Z. It was the first of many memorable performances in a large variety of genres.

Another great moment was when Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the surviving members of the Beatles performed.

Daft Punk took home five awards and the duo was as always dressed as robots.  In addition to being the biggest winners of the night they also performed alongside Stevie Wonder.

Kendrick Lamar performed with Imagine Dragons mashing their songs “m.A.A.d city” and “Radioactive”. Metallica performed “One” with Lang Lang. Carole King and Sara Bareilles preformed “Beautiful” and “Brave”.

Macklemore Grammy Awards

One of the biggest surprises of the night was the performance by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis of “Same Love”, which featured Madonna, along with Queen Latifah officiating a marriage ceremony for 34 couples of all different sexualities, races and ages. The performance left much of the audience teary eyed.
